Meditation for daily lifeMeditation for daily life requires a dedication and commitment to set aside a block of time only for this purpose. Where did meditation originate? The practice of meditating has long been a part of the cultures of Japan, India and China, spanning hundreds of years. Yet, if one searches through many other countries, one will find that meditation is universal. The differences lie more in the means, the aims and ways of doing meditation. Meditation TechniquesToday, for many people, Yoga’s meditation techniques and aims make it a meaningful way of life worth pursuing. Of the meditation techniques use, two are more widely practiced. The first one is mindfulness meditation and here as you meditate; you stay alert but focus on all the thoughts passing through your mind, but without judging these thoughts. The second technique, practiced by a lot of religions, is the concentration meditation technique. Meditation consists of gazing on an external object, while ignoring distractions. To stay focused on the moment, one intones either a mantra or prayers. Why meditate? The world we live in is full of external stimuli and our minds and bodies, will from time to time, get fatigued with all that is happening in our midst. Meditation practiced consistently, gives the mediator the ability create internal space. With daily practice, this space becomes easier to enter, and in the quality of stillness, whatever the external circumstances, one finds himself or herself – calm. When a person is calm, then one is able to react in an orderly and logical way, that wholly independent of what’s happening in from of ones’ self. Meditation, when exercised consistently gives the mediator clarity of mind and inner peace.
