The 10 most common phobias people deal with include arachnophobia, social phobia, aero phobia, agoraphobia, claustrophobia, acrophobia, emetophobia, carcinophobia, brontophobia, and necrophobia. While these phobias deal with a wide variety of things the individuals with these phobias all have phobic feelings that are extreme and cause high blood pressure and anxiety.

Many people develop phobias during childhood when extreme anxiety can develop as well as fear at the sight of spiders, blood, the thought of death, flying, vomiting, small spaces, snakes, dogs, and animals in general. These are just a few of the types of phobias individuals report to have.

Fortunately, psychiatrists can help individuals with phobias gradually condition themselves to not fear the things they feared in the past. This means individuals must be persistent in meeting their fear head on and dealing with it rather than running away.

Some phobias arise from traumatic experiences while others are simply from the thought of an experience that has not occurred or they do not have experience with. When the thing feared presents itself individuals are likely to have an attack of fear that can result in many physical and psychological symptoms.

Phobias can also be exacerbated by the use of drugs and alcohol, so these should be avoided at all costs. Also, if you have a phobia you don’t have to simply deal with it but you can take medications or have therapy to help you control your fears.

People all over the world, all age groups, and both sexes are subject to developing phobias, and while an attack can be embarrassing because it is uncontrollable, individuals can get help with the fears and not let their phobias control them.
